Thank You for 2016!

Thank You for 2016!

Personal politics and fondness for David Bowie aside, 2016 has been a pretty good year for Verbal Discharge. We’ve released 44 podcasts, more than we’d done in our eighteen month life span prior to the 1st January. We’ve not only held our first live show, but also our second, third and fourth. That even included a nativity show where we learned once and for all that none of us can act.  We’ve put out bits and pieces of video nonsense, and plenty of posts on this here website (Which is back up and doing it’s thing properly again now, you may notice). We’ve generally had a better year than we had any right to considering the way 2016 seemed to take a run-up, fly through the air, and then with precision and poise release a perfectly-formed shit on everybody’s collective faces.

We’d like to take this chance to thank everyone who’s helped us over the course of the year. Dan Webber and Furthest From the Sea for supporting us and making the live show pipe dream a reality. The Maypole and The Malt Cross for having us. Nottingham and Derby Comedy Festivals for never realising their mistake in booking us. Luke Acott, Bobby Eccles, Dan Clarkson and everyone at Phantom Media and the UDSU for basically letting us do whatever we liked without consequence. Neil Munro for saving our skins on the morning of every live show when we inevitably cock something up. FFTS tech-bods Josh, Paul and Isaac for having the good grace to accept money in exchange for setting up four mics on the live shows. Natalie Bennett, the Green Party and University of Derby’s Generation Green Society for making the still-surreal Natalie Bennett interview happen. David Bowie, for not being dead in our heart of hearts. George Osborne for being such an easy target (You think that’s snow falling on the website at the moment?). And, most of all, every single one of you who downloaded an episode, who read an article on the website, who came to a live show, who watched one of the dumb videos we put out. Thank you, we couldn’t have done it without you, and we’ll see you with so much more in the New Year!

Namely, a three-part podcast covering our highs and lows of 2016. Part one will be out tomorrow, New Year’s Day, with the other parts to follow over the course of the next week. Take it as our treat to you. Our three-part treat. Starting tomorrow. Don’t forget that. Happy New Year!
